Hidden Hand Behind Zimbabwe Opposition Party

By Olusola O. Muhammad
(The following article appeared in The Final Call to POWER, September 2000)

According to UK media reports before the recent elections in Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe was ‘accused’ of non-implementation of the ‘Rule of Law’ in his country, and attacked for daring to allow Black Zimbabwean’s to occupy prime productive farming land that was stolen from them, by European Invaders who represent less than 1% of the 12 million population.

The Observer newspaper 21/5/00 - page 2, states: “British Cash behind bid to combat Mugabe.” According to ‘The Observer’ Malcolm Rifkind, Douglas Hurd and Geoffrey Howe – all former Foreign Secretaries of The Queen’s Government, are all “Patrons” of “The Zimbabwe Democracy Trust.

The Patrons of this trust have substantial interests in mining and energy concerns in Zimbabwe . The Trust was behind and supported the white-owned ‘Movement for Democratic Change’ - Opposition Party – of whom Morgan Tsvingirai is its leader.

Support and backing from this Trust came from these ‘eminent’ persons and “White Rhodesians” whose agenda was to secure victory for the MDC Party and wrest political control of Zimbabwe from Robert Mugabe, thus silencing Land Reclamation policies.

As trends go, ‘most favoured nation status’ is bestowed on governments with whom Western governments are desirous of trading with.

Under such status nations are disbursed International Monetary Fund loans and financiers invest heavily in the country ensuring foreign currency and Credit facilities, thus enabling the purchase of imported goods from declining Western Countries as stated by Samuel P. Huntington in his book, The Clash of Civilisations.

The economy of such countries is stable, free from media attention of alleged corruption and mismanagement, and their leaders are seen in the ‘Corridors of Power’ of Western Governments, and represented at the annual Leaders Commonwealth Meeting, that is headed by ‘Queen’ Elizabeth and her government.

News reports of African corruption and mismanagement will no doubt surface in the future, when so-called 'rogue' governments of the ‘Commonwealth’ challenge The Queens authority.

But as Malcolm X was known to never trust what the ‘white man’ supported, perhaps people would take a leaf out of Malcolm’s book, and do likewise.
